CHEO Multifaith Room

This project included the interior fit-up and renovation of an existing 280 sq.ft Multifaith Room. CSV worked with the onsite user groups to ensure that the renovated space would provide a calming, peaceful respite for families of all faiths seeking solace in a time of need. A local artist, Mark Thompson, was commissioned by the client to create stained glass art pieces. The three stained glass art panels were back-lit with LED lights and recessed into the corridor wall to give the impression of natural light entering the space. Concealed lighting around the perimeter of the room washes the walls providing a bright spot in the centre of the hospital. Custom millwork was constructed to house shoes, prayer mats, books, candles, and other items for use by families of patients and staff.

Sustainable features

Although a small project, efforts were made to ensure that the products used would be sustainable. All wood millwork and trim is Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified and composite wood products contain non urea-formaldehyde resins. Light fixtures are all LED to reduce energy and maintenance costs
