Queen’s University Stauffer Library Renovation

CSV was engaged by Queen’s University to renovate the Stauffer Library lower level to relocate their library staff to a new modern office environment. The goal of the renewal was to relocate as well as consolidate staff in a contemporary work environment and provide a new multi-purpose seminar nature inspired space for staff and students.

Design details

This relocation takes advantage of the large windows on the west side of the building, unusual for a basement space. The project was a phased project, built while the library was in use by both staff and students. The relocation of staff allowed for a new multi-purpose seminar room for up to 100 participants. The space has an advanced audio-visual system complete with multiple screens so everyone in the room has clear views to the presentations. When not used as a seminar room the space transforms into a collaborative student agile learning space.

Sustainable features

An agile and flexible learning space with greater natural light transformed this previous dark basement space. Now, used for presentations or for student collaboration, the advanced audio-visual system and recycled furniture enable greater flexibility to meet the differing student learning needs.
