Carleton University MacOdrum Library Ad Hoc Study Space

CSV worked with Carleton University to create an active learning space at the junction of the University tunnels and the MacOdrum Library. The concept was to refresh a portion of an existing building and transform it into an inviting, light-filled space for students to participate in ad hoc group discussion and collaboration. With the needs of the students in mind, the vision for the project was a contemporary and versatile space for agile learning and to help foster connections and academic relationships. Small huddle spaces are central to the design, where small groups of students can work together on projects or assignments.

Design details

The interior renovation includes the use of new floors, wall, and ceiling (painting and wood slat ceiling) finishes. Flexible furniture was selected to encourage user-led relocation of furniture for group study. Electrical work included new lighting fixtures and the placement of electrical sockets in various strategic locations for charging devices.
