Carleton University CTTC Building Renewal
The Carleton Technology and Training Centre (CTTC) Building is located on the Carleton University campus and provides space for both private and public facilities, including the health services suite and the Co-op Office, dental offices, pharmacy, and the main health clinic serving the entire campus. CSV Architects was engaged by Carleton to lead the renewal of the CTTC building as part of their multi-year infrastructure renewal program.
Overall project goals
The goal of the renewal was to rejuvenate the CTTC building, focusing on significantly increasing energy efficiency and user comfort. The work included upgrades to the electrical distribution system, plumbing, heating and cooling system infrastructure along with implementing water conservation measures. A complete phasing plan was required to allow the building to remain open and occupied, with short term tenant relocation as needed using temporary swing spaces. An understanding of the technical requirements to bridge old and new systems operating simultaneously was critical. CSV led a team of consultants to analyze the existing conditions and prepare the renewal plan over a three year multi-phase program.
Sustainable features
The selection of non-toxic low/no VOC off-gassing materials to create a healthy interior environment are amoung other important sustainable design features incorporated into the design.
