170 Metcalfe Luxury Apartments

170 Metcalfe Apartments was converted from the Canada Red Cross office tower into a contemporary luxury apartment building in downtown Ottawa. Designed for the urban lifestyle, the project transformed a typical office space into a unique, amenity-filled, rental apartment building with 61 units. From the ground floor to the roof top patio, new common spaces were thoughtfully designed to capture the residents' desire to live sustainably in a central location. The new amenity spaces on the ground floor and basement included a commercial retail space, fitness centre, business lounge, a tiered theatre room, and secure bike storage area. A lounge and party room extend to an outdoor roof top terrace with spectacular views of the city. The new residential units include features such as open concept kitchens with stainless-steel appliances, in-suite laundry and contemporary plumbing fixtures and LED lighting fixtures throughout.

Sustainable features

Sustainable Features: The rejuvenation of an existing outdated office building to 61 units of residential space adds to the sustainability of the urban landscape. The design transformation improved energy efficiency and created shared amenities. Common spaces such as a rooftop terrace, theatre, common lounge and kitchen, and fitness room promote the wellness of the tenants, while at the same time reducing their carbon footprint. The downtown location, without parking, enables a healthy urban lifestyle of walking or cycling.
