CSV was engaged to design a 3-storey boathouse for the Petrie Island Canoe Club to be constructed in a phased approach. Phase 1 of the project will be to construct the first storey of the building which will be used to store canoes. An amenity space/viewing platform on the roof will also be included as part of this phase. The second phase will be the construction of the second and third storeys of the building to include a weight room for rowers to train year-round, washrooms, change rooms, multi-purpose space, a commercial kitchen, office, and balcony.
Petrie Island Canoe Club
Sustainable design on flood-prone land
The western potion of the lot is a nature preserve for wetlands. As the building is located on a flood plain, it will be designed not to float away with the tides. It will also incorporate native plants that will help prevent erosion and add to the local natural habitat. Other sustainable design features include the use of solar panels for emergency lighting and timber construction for the second and third storey’s.
