More than ever, students from high schools through colleges and universities are engaged in discussions of sustainability. With the worldwide pandemic, climate change and people like Greta Thunberg, young people are starting to ask questions about their future. As we’ve been designing ‘green’ buildings for more than 20 years, and have a full-time in-house sustainability consultant, students have been reaching out to CSV. The Ontario Heritage Conference, organized by Community Heritage Ontario, takes place each year to provide education on historical sites, building, restoration and preservation methods along with legal advice on protecting these places. The conference provides a platform for Heritage Professionals to exchange ideas amongst each other and share success stories as well as lessons learned. The conference offer tours and presentations along with networking opportunities.
Peter Simister, a member of the Canadian Association of Heritage Professionals (CAHP), spoke at the conference June 10th. He presented a case study of local landmark Birkett House and CSV’s involvement in the foundation replacement and restoration of the Sunroom following earthquake damage in 2010.
