Kanata West Fire Station #46 provides emergency services for the community of Stittsville. This urban fire station includes three apparatus bays, a watch room, a gear room, a hose tower, and a clean room. In addition staff are provided with offices, dorms, locker rooms, kitchen/dining facilities, exercise facilities, and a meeting/training room. On-site storm water management and and natural landscaping are exterior site features.
Sustainable features
The fire station was designed in accordance with the City of Ottawa’s Green Building Policy. The building is LEED-NC® Silver certified and incorporates a wide array of sustainable design features including water use reduction. By installing low-flush and low-flow plumbing fixtures, the station uses 42% less water than a building designed to meet minimum code requirements. This means the station will on average use 375,402 litres less per day in its regular functioning.
