McIntosh Perry Office
McIntosh Perry, now Egis, is an expanding multi-disciplinary consulting firm focused on civil, structural and environmental engineering. The company places a high value on their staff and as such we focused the design on creating a healthy, collaborative workplace for their growing workforce. The main office areas at the new Carp office are open-concept and south-facing, maximizing natural light for the staff. Protective overhangs at the south-facing windows minimize glare and overheating. Workstations are grouped in ‘work pods’ to encourage collaboration and provide each staff member access to views of the exterior from their desk.
Sustainable features
Several sustainable strategies were employed in the building design including use of energy efficient heating and cooling systems, water efficient plumbing fixtures and on-site waste and storm water systems. The building is able to achieve a total energy savings of 31% with summer peak demand savings of 42kWh. Improved indoor environmental quality was obtained through the use of low/no VOC materials and materials with high regional and recycled content were selected.
